The Creakers

What would you do if you woke up to a world with no grown-ups? When all the parents in the world disappear, most kids think this is amazing! They can finally run wild and eat candy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But Lucy Dungston wants to get her mom back, especially because her dad disappeared not long ago. Lucy wants the truth, and she's convinced that the creaking sounds that come from under her bed can lead her to it. creak . . . creak . . . That's when Lucy meets the Creakers, a bunch of sticky and smelly creatures who live under children's beds. This troublesome bunch has taken all the grown-ups to an upside-down world called The Woleb. Lucy must act fast if she wants to rescue the grown-ups because adults who stay in the Woleb too long start becoming Creakers!

Mr. Nogginbody Gets a Hammer
If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Beloved and best-selling picture book creator David Shannon, author of the classic Caldecott Honor Book No, David!, launches a new character and delivers a sharp poke to the funny bone in this satisfyingly silly and subversive take on a familiar parable in MR. NOGGINBODY GETS A HAMMER. After snagging his toe on a nail protruding from the floor, Mr. Nogginbody makes a visit to his local hardware store in search of solutions. Armed with a shiny new hammer, he successfully fixes his floor, but the satisfaction of his first repair carries him away, and he figures that anything resembling a nail, a picture hanger, the switch on a table lamp, a showerhead, a fire hydrant, can be fixed with a sturdy whack from his hammer. The results are predictably and theatrically disastrous, until Mr. Nogginbody arrives at a gentle awakening and realizes that not everything is a nail. MR. NOGGINBODY GETS A HAMMER is a fresh, funny, comic adventure from a celebrated and immensely popular writer.

Dasher
From the celebrated creator of Red and Lulu comes the story of a brave little doe who meets Santa and changes Christmas forever. Dasher is an adventurous young reindeer with a wish in her heart. She spends her days with her family under the hot sun in a traveling circus, but she longs for a different life — one where there is snow beneath her hooves and the North Star above her head. And one day, when the opportunity arises, Dasher seizes her destiny and takes off in pursuit of the life she wants to live. It’s not long before she meets a nice man in a red suit with a horse-drawn sleigh, a man named Santa. And soon, with the help of a powerful Christmas wish, nothing will be the same.

Just Because
Curious minds are rewarded with curious answers in a fantastical bedtime book by Mac Barnett and Isabelle Arsenault. Why is the ocean blue? What is rain? What happened to the dinosaurs? It might be time for bed, but one child is too full of questions about the world to go to sleep just yet. Little ones and their parents will be charmed and delighted as a patient father offers up increasingly creative responses to his child’s nighttime wonderings. Any child who has ever asked “Why?” — and any parent who has attempted an explanation — will recognize themselves in this sweet storybook for dreamers who are looking for answers beyond “Just because.”

Scarecrow
New York Times bestselling author Beth Ferry (Stick and Stone) and the widely acclaimed Fan Brothers present this tender and affectionate picture book tale about a lonely scarecrow who saves a baby crow, and the loving and protective bond that grows between two unlikely friends. All the animals know not to mess with old Scarecrow. But when a small, scared crow falls from midair, Scarecrow does the strangest thing… He saves the tiny baby crow. Soon, a loving and protective bond grows between the two unlikely friends. But is it strong enough to weather the changing of the seasons? Bestselling author Beth Ferry and the widely acclaimed Fan Brothers present this tender and affectionate tale that reminds us of the comforting power of friendship and the joy of helping others.

Summer
Summer is a poetic, inspirational picture book about the power of kindness from two of China's most acclaimed creators. During a hot summer day in the grasslands, a group of animals race to claim the single spot of shade—under one tiny leaf that clings to a branch. The animals fight until they are inspired by an act of love to offer shade to one another. Through lyrical text from Hans Christian Andersen Award winner Cao Wenxuan, the story comes alive with bright, delicate art from award-winning illustrator Yu Rong and provides a vivid introduction to animals. In the middle of the book, pages grow shorter and then longer to emphasize each selfless action and to remind children of the importance of sharing and being kind.

Listen
A lyrical, inspiring picture book that promotes empathy, from the creators of the New York Times bestseller Come With Me. Holly M. McGhee and Pascal Lemaître ask inspire empathy by exploring what it means to be connected to everything, including the natural world. Simple and tender, Listen teaches us to engage our senses, to taste, see, and feel in order to engage with the world around us.
