Authors Jacqueline Woodson, Dave Eggers, Yuyi Morales and Meg Medina Take the BookExpo Stage to Discuss Their Upcoming Works and Tackle Topics of Diversity, Citizenship, Immigration and Inclusiveness

Norwalk, CT, January 19, 2018:  ReedPOP’s BookExpo is bringing together some of literature’s most prominent Children and Young Adult authors for one of the show’s most popular events – the Children’s Book & Author Breakfast. Drawing more than 1,000 attendees for a morning of lively conversation with literary giants, the Children’s Book & Author Breakfast continues to be one of the most sought-after events of the show and this year will tackle some of the most relevant topics of the day.

Recently appointed as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Jacqueline Woodson will take the stage to talk about her two forthcoming books, The Dream of America and The Day You BeginThe Dream of America will be Woodson’s first middle-grade novel since National Book Award winner Brown Girl Dreaming, and celebrates the tight bond formed by six students whose lives intersect in an experimental classroom in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. In The Day You Begin, Woodson and two-time Pura Belpré Illustrator Award winner, Rafael López, have teamed up to create a poignant and heartening book about what it's like to be a new kid.

Bestselling author Dave Eggers will talk about his upcoming children’s book, What Can a Citizen Do?, a playful and poignant exploration of what it means to be a citizen intended to encourage children to become politically active. They will be joined by Caldecott Honor book artist and five-time Pura Belpré Award winner Yuyi Morales, who tells her own immigration story in Dreamers, a picture-book tribute to the transformative power of hope and reading. Additionally, Pura Belpré Author Award winner Meg Medina will discuss her upcoming middle-grade novel, Merci Suárez Changes Gears, a coming-of-age tale following strong-willed sixth-grader Merci Suárez as she navigates difficult changes with friends, family, and everyone in between. Finally, a surprise special guest will be announced shortly.

Taking place Friday, June 1, the BookExpo Children’s Book & Author Breakfast will kick off the final day of the 3-day event, further establishing BookExpo as the must-attend destination for the publishing industry.
