BookExpo America Reveals “BEA Live” Streaming Events In Partnership With Sony Reader™ And Sony Reader™ Store

Marquee Author Appearances Now Available to Public for Free Viewing

Norwalk, CT, May 16, 2013: Officials at BookExpo America (BEA) have announced that the show will once again partner with Sony Reader and the Sony Reader Store to make its high profile author appearances available to the public for viewing live or on demand. The BEA Live streaming program, which was launched last year to enormous success, utilizes the technology of Livestream, a leading company in the streaming technology field and a premier platform for producing live events online. This year, an estimated 250,000 people will be able to view a huge range of authors as a result of the Sony partnership which is providing considerable underwriting for the initiative.

BEA’s programming is extensive and BEA Live will feature a full range of speeches, interviews and panels. The BEA Live dedicated channel on the Livestream network will not only be available for viewing at and but it will be made available to BEA’s media partners; dedicated industry trade sites including Publishers Weekly, Publishers Lunch, Shelf Awareness, The Book Reporter; as well as the global Reed book fairs which include London Book Fair, Salon du Livre, and the Tokyo Book Fair. Additionally, scores of bloggers will also be carrying the feed to their audiences.

BookExpo America is North America’s leading book industry event and will take place in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Center, May 29 – June 1, 2013.

Organizers note that in addition to this year’s live streaming effort, further accessibility to BEA content will be enhanced by considerable taped video coverage of many programs as well as on site interviews with authors that will be immediately uploaded to the BEA Live website. The Huffington Post and USA Today, just two of several high profile media sponsors at BEA this year, will be conducting many of the interviews. Other media sponsors include NPR, New York, and The New York Times. Meanwhile, author promotion through BEA’s video efforts has already noticeably improved since last year via BEA’s “In Your Space” mini documentaries which provide a behind-the-scenes look at authors in their home and workspace.

“I am pleased and grateful to Sony Reader and the Sony Reader Store for stepping in and supporting our BEA Live program in such a significant way,” notes Steve Rosato, Show Manager for BEA. “Both BEA and Sony work with all aspects of publishing as we seek to embrace and explore new delivery technology including streaming events and online conversations. I’m confident that our BEA Live initiative is going to be huge this year and I am very happy that we can now deliver so much quality programming to so many people.”

A few of the authors whose participation will be available for viewing to the public through BEA Live include Doris Kearns Goodwin, Chelsea Handler, Octavia Spencer, Ishamel Beah, Rick Riordan, Chris Matthews, Helen Fielding, Neil Gaiman, Robbie Robertson, and Amy Tan to name just a few. Other programming which will be captured for viewing include all the BEA Editor Buzz panels as well as author interviews from the ABA’s Celebration of Bookselling and Awards Luncheon. Both the live programming and the recorded programming will be archived and will be available for viewing on demand during the show as well as after.
