BookExpo America Provides Unique Opportunity For Indie Authors

uPublishU at BEA Conference is Premiere Industry Event for Self-Publishers; Brand New “Author Hub” to Serve as Center for Entrepreneurial Authors

Norwalk, CT, February 20, 2014:    BookExpo America (BEA) is considerably expanding its efforts to focus on independent and self-published authors by introducing the brand new Author Hub.  The innovative program will run in tandem with uPublishU at BEA, the established and industry-leading conference for all authors who are looking to take charge of their publishing projects.   The goal of the two initiatives is to further integrate the self-publishing community into the publishing mainstream by providing platforms where entrepreneurial authors may interact and share the spotlight at North America’s leading book industry event.  Launched in 2012, uPublishU at BEA has grown in each of the past two years with a total attendance of 350 in 2013.  This year’s conference will feature over 30 speakers and more than 25 exhibitors.  Programming at the 2014 edition of uPublishU at BEA, which will take place on Saturday, May 31st at the Javits Center will be sorted into tracks – with sessions for authors who are bringing their first book to market, and sessions for the more experienced entrepreneurial author, as well as many panels focused on marketing.    

The new Author Hub, which will be located on the BEA show floor and which will be open all three days of the convention, is conceived as a venue where authors will put into action all the practices, perspective and know-how presented to them by leading industry figures at the uPublishU at BEA Conference.  As the name implies, it will be a center of operations; it will have a seamless connection to uPublishU at BEA as all Author Hub members automatically get access to the uPublishU at BEA Conference.  The Author Hub itself will be a dedicated space on the trade-show floor that features a presentation area, receptionist desk, large tables for networking, lounge furniture for impromptu chats with colleagues, and the Premium members’ tables – a draw for many other BEA-goers who will want to meet the Hub’s entrepreneurial authors.  To date, the Author Hub will feature five of the very highest profile entrepreneurial authors who have signed on as Premium members.  They include:     

Bella Andre, author of the bestselling "The Sullivans" series; she has sold more than 3 million copies of her books and Harlequin MIRA is releasing "The Sullivans" in paperback

Barbara Freethy, author of the bestselling "Summer Secrets" (4 weeks on the NY Times list); she has sold more than 4 million copies and has 35 books on the market

Hugh Howey, author of the bestselling "Wool" trilogy, optioned for a film; he has sold some 2 million copies of his books -- the newest are "Sand" and "Peace in Amber"

CJ Lyons, emergency-room doctor turned bestselling novelist; she has more than 2 million copies sold, many in her Lucy Guardino FBI series; the newest is "After Shock" 

H.M. Ward, a NY Times bestseller 11 times in 2013 alone; she has sold more than 4 million copies of her books and reports being offered more than $1.5 million in advances by publishers
