This interactive workshop will reframe bookstore’s existing merchandise mix into 8 new categories.  Through this lens we will gain better insight into key consumer drivers shaping successful retailers:  experience and expression.  Leveraging this framework provides a clear roadmap and proactive merchandising strategy to create an experience unique to your store and ensure customers come back regularly.

Historically a store’s biggest challenge was getting people through the door.   Once in, thoughtful merchandising ensured that customers found what they needed, browsed and discovered other items, checked out and left.  The mobile phone has eroded this model dramatically.  Customers can quickly research, comparison shop, read reviews, and purchase online before a sales associate has time to engage.  There are key, proactive steps retailers can take to not only confront this competitive pressure, but thrive!

Emergent Workshop has found that stores both small and large can deliver the unique experience consumers seek and inspire them to come back repeatedly.  Merchandise balance can be evaluated, reevaluated and recalibrated on an ongoing basis through this dynamic framework to ensure that the categories inspire customers to take action, spend more time, interact and engage.
Key takeaways will include:
-    How categories define your store and inspire customers to take action
-    How experience will generate emotional connections to your store
-    How customers can be encouraged to express themselves
-    What criteria can be used to select new vendors
