Leading Authors Take The Stage As BookExpo America Heads To New York City

Norwalk, CT, March 5, 2009: BookExpo America (BEA) has today announced its line up of authors who will be participating in its popular Special Events which include the Author Breakfasts, the Saturday Lunch, the Audio Tea and the newly created Meet the Bestsellers lunch which was launched last year. BEA’s speaker program is a convention highlight and brings attention to new books by accomplished writers from many fields of endeavor. Some of the writers who will be showcased in this year’s author programming include Julie Andrews Edwards, Craig Ferguson, Tracy Kidder, Jeannette Walls, Pat Conroy, Kathie Lee Gifford, Joe Scarborough, Richard Russo, and Nicholas Sparks.

"Our line up is as robust as it is diverse, which is a point of pride and satisfaction for us, especially since we still have more dynamic author programming to announce over the next two months,” notes Lance Fensterman, Vice President and Show Manager for BEA. “I am profoundly grateful to the publishers and authors who make these quality events possible. BEA will take place in New York City at the Jacob K. Javtis Center , May 28 – May 31, 2009. Tickets for BEA's '09 Special Events will be available for purchase through the BEA website beginning Wednesday, March 18 th . All ticket prices will be announced at that time.

8:00am – 9:30am Children’s Book & Author Breakfast (Special Events Hall)
Presented in cooperation with the Children's Booksellers and Publishers Committee [A cooperative committee of the American Booksellers Association (ABA), Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC), and the Children's Book Council (CBC)] this opening-day breakfast will feature Meg Cabot, author of Allie Finkle’s Rules For Girls Book 4: Stage Fright (Scholastic Inc.); Tomie dePaola, author of Strega Nona’s Harvest (Penguin Young Readers Group); and Amy Krouse Rosenthal, author of Duck! Rabbit! (Chronicle Books) and Little Oink (Chronicle Books).  Julie Andrews Edwards, author of Julie Andrews’ Collection of Poems, Songs and Lullabies (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers) will be the Master of Ceremonies.

This year's lunch will feature Pat Conroy, author of South of Broad (Doubleday), Lorrie Moore, author of A Gate at the Stairs (Alfred A. Come hear Kathie Lee Gifford, author of Just When I Thought I’d Dropped My Last Egg (Random House Audio), Lisa Scottoline, author of Look Again (Macmillan Audio), and Katherine Kellgren, narrator of the Odyssey Honor-winning audiobook, Curse of the Blue Tattoo (Listen & Live Audio) talk about their books and upcoming audiobooks and the experience of hearing works translated into audiobook format.  Hosted by the Audio Publishers Association.

Meet Nicholas Sparks, author of The Last Song to be published September ’09 and David Baldacci, author of an untitled novel to be published in November ’09 and enjoy a COMPLIMENTARY LUNCH -- Courtesy of Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group.  Sparks and Baldacci will discuss their lives, their work and their inspirations.  A Q & A with the audience will follow and they will autograph copies of their most recent books!  Seating is limited, first come, first served.  Admission: FREE!
