Hero Pilot To Address Booksellers
Norwalk, CT, April 2, 2009: BookExpo America (BEA) has announced that Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger, III will appear at the convention as a Guest of Honor on Saturday, May 30 at 3:00pm. Captain Sullenberger, who will be appearing on behalf of William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, will address attendees and will, according to his publisher, be available to sign a promotional piece about the book following his speech. Captain Sullenberger will appear on one of BEA’s two new Author Stages which will be located on the north and south ends of the convention floor at the Jacbob K. Javits Center in New York City. BookExpo America, which annually attracts in excess of 20,000 book industry professionals, is scheduled to take place May 28 – May 31, 2009.
“We are enormously pleased and proud to have Captain Sullenberger appear at BEA as a Guest of Honor,” notes Lance Fensterman, Vice President and Show Manager for BookExpo America. “Captain Sullenberger is one of those rare individuals whose character and integrity are quickly discernible by the manner in which he presents himself. He is a person who everyone wants to meet. His availability and his willingness to greet everyone on the show floor is exactly what our new Author Stages are all about and we couldn’t be more pleased to provide our attendees with this matchless opportunity. We are very grateful to both Captain Sullenberger and William Morrow for making this possible.”
On January 15, 2009, Captain Sullenberger and his crew safely landed their crippled aircraft in the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 people on board US Airways Flight 1549. William Morrow announced on March 20, 2009 that they would be publishing two books with Captain Sullenberger. The first book, scheduled for publication in late 2009, will be Captain Sullenberger’s life story – the important lessons that helped him become the man and pilot he is today, including his boyhood, his military service, and the fateful emergency landing dubbed by the media “the Miracle on the Hudson.”
Further information about Captain Sullenberger’s appearance at BEA will be available and posted on BEA’s web site as soon as it is available. There will be no admission charge. Seating is limited and will be first come, first served.
