Publishers Launch is a new series of conferences staged around the world to help book publishing professionals worldwide master the opportunities (and overcome the challenges) of the digital transition.
At Publishers Launch Conference (PLC) at BEA, you will get near-term practical and strategic solutions and tips to help manage the digital transition. PLC is for trade publishers everywhere. You will benefit from a global approach, learning about the opportunities and obstacles US companies face as they use ebooks to expand internationally, how international ebook markets are now growing robustly and how non-US publishers both learn from the US market experience and expand their sales here (in their own languages and in English). You'll also get the latest insights on digital change issues, including organizational changes and marketing innovation, that are not ebook-centric.

Program Highlights
- Data, Analysis, and Insight
Publishers Launch at BEA will feature new data presentations from Bowker Market Research, Codex, and Ingram Book Company. You will hear about sales trends for print and digital titles around the world as well as about how the shift to online sales is impacting new author and title discovery.
- Remaking the Publishing House
Senior executives from HarperCollins, Perseus, F+W Media, and Sourcebooks will discuss how the growth of ebooks, the challenges of complex digital products, and the shrinking of the print distribution network and supporting marketing environment has changed what they do and how they do it.
You will also hear in detail how two Big Six companies, Hachette and Penguin, are transforming their businesses and developing new tools, products, and services to be more competitive in a rapidly changing industry.
- Sales Across the Borders
Publishers around the world are operating in an increasingly global marketplace. At Publishers Launch at BEA, US and international publishers, booksellers, and distributors will discuss the growth of opportunities for both import and export content sales.
- Publishers Launchpad
Publishers Launchpad is a forum to highlight new propositions for the trade publishing value chain. Launchpad will showcase four new services and tools that are at the digital cutting edge of the book industry.
- Other program features
Publishers Launch BEA will also take a look at the global comics industry and the lessons that can be applied to other segments of the publishing business. A panel of agents large and small will discuss their clients' changing expectations as well as new considerations in publisher negotiations. And Publishers Launch co-founders Michael Cader and Mike Shatzkin will provide critical context throughout the day so that attendees walk away better informed and better prepared to manage the digital transition.
Who Should Attend
PLC at BEA is particularly beneficial for US publishing executives who are thinking and/or dealing globally; international visitors to BEA; rights buyers and sellers; and others in trade publishing focused on strategy and where the digital transition is headed next in remaking book publishing.
