First Time to BEA?

Here are the top 7 things you need to make the most out of your visit:

1. Register by the early bird of May 15 to SAVE BIG!
Show Dates: Wednesday, May 29, 2013 - Saturday, June 1, 2013

Do a quick review of the dates and pricing and then register for your BEA badge which includes access to BEA exhibits and BEA conference sessions. Then consider adding on Special Event tickets and Concurrent Event passes. There's so much to do at BEA—make sure you take advantage of signing up for all the extras during online registration so you don't miss out!

Special Events tickets—the 3 most popular events at BEA are the Author Breakfasts featuring top authors discussing their books. Tickets are limited—be sure to get yours early!
Autographing Passes—BEA boasts the largest author autographing program in the US! This is a free special event, but if you want to make sure you get to meet that one special author, consider getting a Reader's Pass or Avid Reader's Pass. These passes will give you extra benefits such as a "Front of the Line Pass," a "one-time" pass allowing you to by-pass the crowds and go to the front of any one author's line.
Concurrent Events—gain even more insights beyond the BEA conference sessions with these other conferences taking place during BEA including BEA Book Bloggers, uPublishU at BEA, IDPF Digital Book Conference, Publishers Launch Conference. These conferences require an additional pass that you can purchase during online registration.

Express Badge reminder: once you register to attend BEA you will receive your BEA Express Badge via email. Remember to bring this with you on-site to expedite your registration and check in.

5. Get to the Javits Center and Check in

Getting to the Javits Center:

The Javits Center is located at 655 West 34th Street, New York, N.Y. 10001.
If you are staying in a hotel, familiarize yourself with local eateries as well as the best way to travel from the show to your hotel be that walking, bus, or taxi.

Shuttle Bus—BEA offers a complimentary shuttle bus service to and from official BEA hotels. Check back soon for the 2013 schedule.
Taxi—NYC is filled with yellow taxis and can be found on every corner. View New York Taxicab Companies.

Once you get to the Javits Center here is how you can check in:

Bring your BEA Express Badge (this was emailed to you after you registered) to the Express Registration Counters located in the North Concourse (Level 2) to pick up your badge and badge holder.
Always take note of where you enter the Javits—use something as a landmark so you know where to leave. During the day, take note of landmarks, booth, exit/entrance as points of reference so you'll always have your bearings in the convention center and on the crowded exhibit floor.
If you are going with friends, be sure to identify a central location to meet up if you are going to split up to experience BEA so you can meet up again at the end of the day.

6. Be Ready with Survival Gear & Tips once you're at BEA

SHOES—wear comfortable shoes that have a good sole preferably rubber based because you'll be walking and covering a lot of ground at the show.

WATER—bring either a Camel-Bak or refillable water bottle to have on the go, all of that walking builds up quite a thirst!

CHARGER—don't forget a charger for your smartphones or camera to charge on-site.

EXTRA LAYERS—pack a light sweatshirt or sweater, running around the exhibit floor may make you hot, but once you enter a conference or leave the exhibit floor, you may get a bit chilly.

Pace yourself!—don't rush! You have three days to walk the floor. Take a break every few hours to relax and calm down from the hustle and bustle of the Exhibit Floor and Autographing Area.

BREAKFAST—be sure to have breakfast before heading to the convention, even the smallest amount of food will give you hours of energy to carry you till lunch.

EAT ON-SITE—scope out the food court options for food allergies, budget, and acquired tastes. Be sure to grab lunch so you are energized for the afternoon. There's a large food court on Level 1 of the Javits Center across from the Special Events Hall as well as smaller food stands on Level 3 right outside the BEA exhibits.

7. Enjoy NYC!

There's plenty of time to get out of the Javits Center and experience all that NYC has to offer—world-class dining, shopping, one-of-a-kind shows, entertainment, and more.

New York City Dining—Be a foodie and view all that New York City has to offer via nycgo's dining section.
New York City Nightlife—NYC is 'the city that never sleeps'. Check out some of the city's nighttime hot spots.
New York City Theaters—Experience the magic of a Broadway show.
Shopping— NYC is the perfect place to shop till you drop. Head to a museum gift shop and bring home a signature piece of NYC culture or browse designer stores along Fifth Avenue in Midtown.
Sightseeing—Visit NYC's most famous landmarks or check out a new neighborhood. Make sure to bring your spouse and children and take advantage of all the family-friendly sights and activities.
