BEA Shines Spotlight On Emerging Technology And Voices
Norwalk, CT, May 20, 2009: BookExpo America (BEA) today revealed some details regarding its New Media Zone -- a dedicated area in the center of the show floor which is designed to attract attendees who are interested in learning about new media technology as well as provide a home for lit bloggers who may be looking for a place to sit down, plug in, and blog about their experience at BEA. The rise in the number of bloggers applying for press credentials to BEA this year has been dramatic and organizers are eager to recognize the lit blogging community and encourage their participation in years ahead. Kindle and other eBook reader demos will also be the focus of attention in the New Media Zone as major companies will be participating in a range of activities, including Borders.com which will be capturing author content from BEA for use on their website. BookExpo America, which is expected to attract approximately 25,000 book industry professionals this year, will take place May 28 – May 31, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York, NY.
"We are pleased about our New Media Zone and we view it as the beginning of even bigger and better things to come," notes Lance Fensterman, Vice President and Show Manager for BEA. "The blogging community is critical to our development over the next few years as it represents the essence of the dialogue and connectivity that defines BEA. In 2010 we will be combining our New Media Zone with the press office and moving it all to a large, dedicated section on the show floor. It’s all part of a new, media-centric BEA, which is also reflected in our Author Stage initiative. We envision the show floor as a large interactive network which encourages instant communication and conversation. We hope that the lit blogging community and others will welcome these changes."
Conceived as a platform on the show floor to highlight multiple aspects of new and emerging media, the New Media Zone will, as noted, also provide eBook reader demos, and it will be the home of streaming studios, notably where Borders.com will be interviewing authors and streaming other author content. The New Media Zone will be located in the heart of the show floor, directly through the main entrance, and half way back. New Media Zone exhibitors include: Apratar, DNAML, Endless Ideas, Ingram, Kindle, Libre Digital, Overdrive, and Sony. Additionally, special New Media Zone "Live Executive Summaries", sponsored by IDPF, will take place in 15 minute increments on BEA’s Downtown Stage on Friday (5/29) and Saturday (5/30), 10am – 11am. Participating companies will discuss their latest technology as well as provide a demonstration of their digital services, tools, and ebook readers.
